So You've Got Your First Website

You've jumped off the deep end and decided to start your very own website. First of all, congratulations, and good for you for deciding to actually do something with your life! Instead of just browsing the Internet, wondering where your next paycheck is gong to come from, you have decided to step up, invest a little bit of money, and try to turn that money into something that might just pay dividends - a website.

You probably either have a friend who has a site helping you, or you're doing the research on your own. You have probably heard about something called a domain registry, and about something else called a web hosting
service. There are several different types of web hosting and you may be confused as to what works the best for you. The options you'll see discussed most often are shared, reseller, dedicated and VPS hosting.

The advice you should most listen to is relaxing, this is the most important step. At first all of this stuff will likely be quite confusing, but after a few hours it will likely click and you'll have a good grasp on things. Some things you just can't learn through research, you'll only learn from experience. Thankfully there isn't a lot of trouble you can get yourself into if you don't hurry, think about things and do a fair amount of research before making your purchasing decision.

If you want your own website you will want to keep in mind that the web hosting will be one of the more important aspects. For the vast majority of new sites you will want to start with shared hosting. When you get too large, or your needs get to specific, you can start looking at VPS or dedicated hosting. If you put in your research, find a host that seems to be great but down the road you no longer feel they fit your needs it is not a difficult process to move hosts.
