Advice for the First-Time Website Owner
Now you dediced that you want to start your first website. Congratulations, it is a great way for you to be able to interact with others online! Instead of just browsing the Internet, wondering
where your next paycheck is gong to come from, you have decided to step up, invest a little bit of money, and try to turn that money into something that might just pay dividends - a
website.
Whether you're doing the research from scratch or have a friend helping you probably already know a little bit about running a website. You have probably heard about something called a domain
registry, and about something else called a web hosting
service. There are several different types of web hosting and you may be confused as to what works the best for you. Shared hosting, dedicated hosting, and VPS are only a few of the choices you
have (though the most common).
The best advice you'll ever get is to take a deep breath and relax. At first all of this stuff will likely be quite confusing, but after a few hours it will likely click and you'll have a good
grasp on things. Of course, some knowledge can only come from experience, but don't worry. Fortunately it's tough to make any major mistakes and you can avoid most of the larger pitfalls using
your common sense and a decent amount of research.
One thing that you should keep in mind though, is that Web hosting is one of the most important aspects of having your own website. For the vast majority of new sites you will want to start with
shared hosting. When you get too large, or your needs get to specific, you can start looking at VPS or dedicated hosting. If you put in your research, find a host that seems to be great but down
the road you no longer feel they fit your needs it is not a difficult process to move hosts.
